The training for the conversation you might only have once

Most safeguarding training is annual, policy-heavy, and forgotten by the next morning. It tells managers who the Designated Safeguarding Lead is. It rarely shows them the moment that actually matters — the colleague with the unexplained bruise, the disclosure that comes with a request to keep it secret, the financial situation that doesn’t quite add up.

The Right Call: Safeguarding puts managers inside five of those moments and shows what happens depending on the choice they make — the missed signal, the broken trust, the escalation that protected someone, or the one that didn’t happen in time.

Scenarios are drawn from real cases, anonymised. Grounded in the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and current UK safeguarding practice. Because the stakes are this high, this module requires a perfect score to pass — managers must get every decision right.

Five scenarios
  • The Bruised Colleague
A team member who’s withdrawn, with a bruise she’s tried to hide — and what duty of care looks like in practice.
  • The Promised Secret
A disclosure that comes with a request not to tell anyone — and the limits of confidentiality you have to be honest about.
  • The Isolated Volunteer
Recognising signs of an adult at risk — and the difference between concern and intervention.
  • The Financial Concern
Patterns that may indicate financial abuse of an older or vulnerable colleague — and what to do with them.
  • The Allegation Against a Manager
A serious allegation about another manager — and the process that protects everyone, including the person accused.

Frequently asked questions

Why does this module require a perfect score?
Safeguarding mistakes carry consequences that can’t be undone — a person at risk who isn’t protected, a disclosure that goes nowhere, a process that fails the person accused. The pass mark reflects that. Managers need to get every call right, not most of them. Learners can retake the module unlimited times to reach 10/10.
How long does the training take to complete?
Around 10 minutes per learner on a first pass. Some learners take a couple of attempts to reach the perfect-score pass mark, in which case allow 15-20 minutes total. Learners can pause and resume; the SCORM package saves state.
Can I deploy this on our LMS?
Yes. The package is supplied as SCORM 1.2, which works in any LMS — TalentLMS, Moodle, Cornerstone, Workday Learning, Bridge and others. You can also host it on your intranet as a standalone HTML file if you don’t use an LMS.
Is this a replacement for our Designated Safeguarding Lead training?
No — this module trains line managers in the decisions they face before escalation. Your DSL needs role-specific training in case management, multi-agency working and statutory process. This module ensures the right calls get made on the way to the DSL, and that disclosures don’t get held inside the manager’s line because they didn’t know what to do with them.
Can I customise this for our organisation?
Not out of the box. It’s deliberately industry-neutral so it works across sectors. If you need bespoke versions with your branding, policies or sector-specific situations, get in touch — we offer this as a paid service.
How are difficult safeguarding topics handled in the scenarios?
Scenarios reference difficult situations — physical abuse, financial abuse, allegations against a colleague. Language is deliberately restrained and the focus is on the manager’s decision and its consequences, not on graphic detail. Learners are not asked to role-play distressing content — they read a brief situation and choose how to respond. Because the free demo is the full product, you can preview every scenario before deploying.
What’s the licensing model?
One-time purchase of £149. Unlimited internal users. No annual renewals, no per-seat fees. The licence covers use within your organisation in perpetuity. If you’re a training provider planning to resell or use it with clients, contact us about a commercial licence.
