The training managers actually need

Mental health training for managers usually falls into one of two traps: a generic e-learning module nobody remembers, or a half-day workshop that never gets booked. Neither helps the manager who’s sat opposite a team member at risk of falling apart, trying to work out what to say next.

The Right Call: Mental Health at Work is built differently. It puts managers inside five real situations — a team member who’s gone quiet, a disclosure that takes them by surprise, a phased return that’s not quite working — and shows the consequences of each choice they could make. There is no “correct” answer screen. Each option plays out, and managers see exactly how their decision lands.

The scenarios are drawn from real cases, anonymised, with the legal frame grounded in current UK practice: the Equality Act 2010, ACAS guidance on mental health at work, and the employer’s duty of care under the Health and Safety at Work Act. One licence covers your whole organisation. SCORM 1.2 deploys to any LMS, or runs standalone in any browser.

Five scenarios
  • The Withdrawal
Noticing a team member’s change in behaviour — and deciding what to do about it.
  • The Disclosure
Responding appropriately when someone opens up about their mental health.
  • The Return
Supporting a phased return from a mental-health-related absence.
  • The Performance Problem
A capability process interrupted by a mental health disclosure — and what your legal obligations become.
  • The Second-Hand Concern
Acting on information from a worried colleague about someone else.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the mental health training take to complete?
Around 10 minutes per learner. Five scenarios with three choices each, plus a short knowledge primer at the start and a key-takeaways screen at the end. Learners can pause and resume; the SCORM package saves state.
Can I deploy this on our LMS?
Yes. The module is supplied as a SCORM 1.2 package that works in any LMS — TalentLMS, Moodle, Cornerstone, Workday Learning, Bridge and others. You can also host it on your intranet as a standalone HTML file if you don’t use an LMS.
Is this a replacement for Mental Health First Aid training?
No, it complements it. Mental Health First Aid teaches recognition and initial response. This module focuses specifically on the decisions managers face once they’re in the situation — what to say when someone discloses, how to manage a phased return, when to intervene, when to step back, and how to balance the needs of the individual with the rest of the team.
Can I customise the scenarios for our organisation?
Not out of the box. The scenarios are deliberately industry-neutral so they work across sectors. If you need bespoke versions with your branding, policies or sector-specific situations, get in touch — we offer this as a paid service.
How are difficult mental health topics handled in the scenarios?
Scenarios reference difficult situations, including indirect references to suicidal ideation. Language is deliberately restrained and the focus is always on the manager’s decision and its consequences, not on graphic detail. Learners are not asked to role-play distressing content — they read a brief situation and choose how to respond. Because the free demo is the full product, you can preview every scenario before deploying.
What’s the licensing model?
One-time purchase of £149. Unlimited internal users. No annual renewals, no per-seat fees. The licence covers use within your organisation in perpetuity. If you’re a training provider planning to resell or use it with clients, contact us about a commercial licence.
